A Brooklyn Adventure

At the end of the summer, Adam and I ventured from Manhattan to Brooklyn via a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. This was something I had been wanting to do for a while for many reasons, one of which was to visit Ample Hills Creamery, a Brooklyn ice cream shop that has been raved about on Buzzfeed's 44 Frozen Treats You Need to Try in NYC this Summer, Time Out NY and other websites.

What makes Ample Hills special is their commitment to using local, fresh ingredients as well as their unique and constantly changing flavors. Ample Hills has 3 permanent locations throughout Brooklyn, as well as a few ice cream carts, and we went to the Pier 5 location in Brooklyn Bridge Park. I had a rice krispie treat flavor and a dark chocolate flavor. Both were incredibly rich and satisfying. One of my favorite things about this type of rich ice cream, is that it doesn't take huge scoops or toppings to fulfill my cravings (which I have frequently).

Sorry this post came so long after the visit to Ample Hills! Life of a grad student is a little bit too busy for my liking..

Welcome!

Welcome to the Ice Cream Scoop! The idea for this blog started last month in Argentina when during our travels, I insisted on eating ice cream at least once a day, and sometimes twice. The title of the blog came before the idea for the blog itself. My boyfriend, who I was traveling with, is very punny, and one day while licking his ice cream cone, probably listening to me talk about how good my ice cream was, looked at me and said "You should start a blog called The Ice Cream Scoop", so here I am.

I love ice cream. I love soft serve ice cream, I love froyo, ice cream cakes, ice cream sandwiches, milkshakes -  really anything involving ice cream. Originally, I was going to use this blog to review different ice cream places and flavors that I have visited, and will visit in the future, but as I become more experienced in writing a blog, I hope to include ice cream recipes and other ice cream related mumbo jumbo.

My first few posts will review different ice cream places and flavors I tried in Argentina and then I will move on to ice cream in NYC, where I currently live.

For now I will leave you with a short video about being an ice cream taster from the Breyer's guy:
